FORT MEYERS, FL - Joseph M. Cloutier died on April 30, 2008 at age 65 in Fort Myers Florida after a brief stay in a hospice. He was born in Portland on Nov. 21, 1942, the son of the late Omar "Joe" and Anne Cloutier. The oldest of five boys, he graduated from Cheverus High School in 1961 and attended St. Michael's College in Vermont before enlisting in the Marine Corps and serving in Vietnam. "Little" Joe was an outstanding three sport athlete while at Cheverus and was known for his wicked curveball. PORTLAND - George Russell Wing, Sr., 86, passed away April 29, 2008, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Portland on June 22, 1921, a son of William W. Wing and Margaret Coffin Wing, the youngest of six children. PORTLAND - William Bucky Malone, 75, of Portland, died April 21, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Togus, surrounded by family. He was born in Augusta, on Oct. 20, 1932, the son of William Malone and Vera Shaw. He grew up in South Portland, attending local schools. He graduated from the University of Maine as a mathematical engineer. In 1950, he entered the United States Marine Corp. and served in the Korean War, where he was awarded two Purple Heart medals. PORTLAND - Norma L. Boyd Austin, 83, resident of Brook Street in Westbrook died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Newton, Mass., the daughter of Stanley and Gladys (Potter) Boyd. She was educated in Maine schools and graduated from Deering High School in Portland. Mrs. Austin was employed as a personnel manager for many years for Sears department stores. Norma had been very active with the Hospice program and was a co-founder of Hospice of Maine. PORTLAND - William L. Mershimer, 81, of Portland, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Maine Medical Center. He was the husband of Doris L. (Dunn) Mershimer. He was born in Holtville, Ala., the son of the late William and Mattie Lou (Thornton) Mershimer. Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy, each for four years, and during WWII. He was employed as an upholster for 36 years retiring in 1988. Besides his wife of 58 years he is survived by a son, William G. Mershimer of Portland and a daughter, Brenda Tarbell and her husband Joseph of California. YARMOUTH - George R. Valente, 70, of Yarmouth died peacefully at Brentwood Manor on Friday May 2, 2008. George was born on March 30, 1938, the son of the late Angelo and Marcella (Vokey) Valente. He graduated with the class of 1956 at South Portland High School. George loved working for North Eastern University and would often work for years without taking a vacation. An animal lover, George would often feed the pigeons during his lunch break. He was an avid reader and also enjoys movies and trivia.
