Dominic Louis Faietta, Sr.


PORTLAND - Dominic Louis Faietta Sr. died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 18 at Maine Medical Center due to natural causes. He was born in Portland on May 16, 1928 to Joseph and Antoinette Faietta. As a teenager, Dominic was a member of the Portland Boys & Girls Club and swam the Portland to Peaks Island event. Dominic attended Portland High School and joined the Merchant Marines. Shortly after he entered the US Army and served in the Korean War from 1950-1952, earning two Bronze Stars. After returning from the war, he joined the Portland Fire Department and was very proud to wear the uniform. All of his firefighter brothers fondly referred to him as "Bevo". He retired from the department in 1975. After, he worked many years for The Maine Charitable Association and the Maine Historical Society.

Throughout his life he was well known for his sense of humor and he made many friends.

                More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved very much, and they will miss him dearly. His happiest times were spent with his family and grandchildren at Sebago and Highland Lakes.

                In 1953 he married and is survived by the former Barbara Clowes. Together they raised four children who survive him; Dominic Sr. and wife Deborah Faietta of Yarmouth; Michael and wife Jeanne Faietta of North Yarmouth; Mary-Ann and husband Bill Coppersmith Sr. of Windham; and Jeanine and husband Brian Eastman of Freeport.

                He is also survived by his grandchildren; Marisa Faietta, Adam Faietta, Nicole Faietta, Alexa Faietta, Bill Coppersmith Jr. and wife Whitney Coppersmith, Andrew Coppersmith, Stephanie Eastman, Matthew Eastman, and Nick Eastman; and great-granddaughter Jayden Faietta.

                Dominic is also survived by two sisters, Theresa Adams and Marie Hammond, and many nieces and nephews.

                Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 2-4  and 6-8 p.m. at Jones, Rich, & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St.  Portland.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev.Dr.  Ronald Messer officiating.

Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
