Alta Frances Farwell
PORTLAND - Alta Frances Farwell, 100, formerly of Mackworth St. and Baxter Boulevard, died on December 9, 2009 at The Cedars in Portland. She was born in Portland on March 17, 1909, the daughter of Frank A. and Emma Jones Farwell, graduating from Deering High School in 1927. She studied Secretarial Science at the Maine School of Commerce in Portland. She worked for various insurance offices and retired from the City of Portland's Purchasing Department in 1972. She was a life member of Deering Chapter #59 Order of Eastern Star, a charter member and first secretary of Portland Assembly #1, Order of Rainbow Girls and a member of the Woodfords Congregational Church for 85 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Gladys Maxfield, Hazel Whalen, brother Frank A. Farwell, Jr. and a niece Caroline Fogg.
Survivors include her sister Beatrice Spiller of Wells, nieces Elizabeth Perry of Inwood, West Virginia, Dorothy Wilson of Portland and Linda Bogli of Hot Springs, AK, nephews William Spiller of Wells, Neal Farwell of Porter, Frank A. Farwell, III of Standish and many nieces and nephews.
A visiting hour will be held at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland on Monday, December 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Annette Mott will officiate. Spring burial will be in Farris Cemetery in Cumberland.
