Arthur John Gallant Jr.
SCARBOROUGH - Arthur John Gallant Jr. ,71, of Scarborough passed away on December 14, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1938 in Portland, to Arthur and Viola Gallant Sr. He graduated from Deering High in 1957. He married his wife Paulina Loomis in 1961. They raised their family in Scarborough. He was a Lt. Pilot of the Portland Fireboat, he retired in 1982. Later, he worked for the Cumberland County Sherriff's Dept. and retired in 2001. He was extremely proud of his Granddaughter Danielle. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also, enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gardening and his computer. He had a love for nature and his animals.
He was predeceased by both his parents Arthur Sr. and Viola Gallant, his brother Robert Gallant and his surviving sister-in-law Ellen Steeves, his sister Loretta Flaherty and her surviving husband John. He is survived by his sister Barbara Henningsen, sister, Dorothy Pesce and her husband Alexander. He is also survived by his wife Paulina of 48 years, his son Arthur J. Gallant III, daughter Laurie Colello, granddaughter Danielle Colello and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may attend a service at Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home at 199 Woodford's St., Portland on Saturday December 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The American Heart Association or the Portland Animal Refuge League.
