FALMOUTH - Joanne O. Hutchinson, 77, of Falmouth, died on December 22, 2009 at home from natural causes. Joanne was born on August 4th 1932 in Portland, Maine, a daughter of John Henry and Vera (Nelson) Owen. She graduated from Portland High School in 1949. Being one of eight sisters and a brother, there was never a dull moment. Joanne met her future husband Richard Hutchinson while working at Maine Bonding and Casualty. They were married, in Portland on June 16th 1956. Richard and Joanne had two children Carol and Stacey. Joanne was a full-time mom for many years.
When the girls were older she worked part time at a local yarn shop. Later she worked for PROP in the Fuel Assistance Program and at Bicknells Photo Processing Center. Joanne owned and operated a yarn shop in North Windham. Joanne was a family person who above all was extremely creative. Her passions over the years included photography, sewing, watching movies, and visiting with family and friends. Knitting was definitely her forte; she sold it, she taught it, she knit it with love.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard, parents John and Vera Owen, brother John, sisters Adele, Margaret & Ethel, brothers-in-law. She is survived by her daughter Carol and son-in-law Ed Richard, Westbrook, ME; and daughter Stacey and son-in-law Peter Keniston, Turner, ME; sisters, Francis Stuart, Seena Kusy, Constance Way and Kay Giglio; grandchildren Justin Richard and Katelyn Ward and their spouses, Elise and Sarah Keniston; great-grandchildren Chloe, Emery and Piper; sisters-in-law Arlene Ricker, June Coyne and Jean Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews; her devoted caregiver Lesley J. Treadwell and childhood friend Beverline Joyce.
A private celebration of Joanne's life will be held at a later date for family and close friends. Arrangements are by Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland.
