PORTLAND - Beatrice (Bea) Emma Poole, 89 of Portland, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Barron Center, due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Beatrice was born on December 15, 1920 in Nobleboro Maine, the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Getchell) Benner. Beatrice was a graduate of Lincoln Academy in Damarascotta Maine. Beatrice worked in the produce department at Shaw's' supermarkets for many years retiring in 1982. She was a member of Woodfords Congregational Church for over 40 years and was known by her everlasting endearing smile. Her best friend was her daughter Sheila.
She lived with her daughters family for over 30 years and was a special light in her granddaughter Cheryl's life, who she helped care for while growing up.
Beatrice enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She enjoyed her traveling especially her trips to Spain, Hawaii, Africa and Germany.
Beatrice's passion was cooking; baking her homemade pies was definitely her forte.
Beatrice is survived by her three children: her daughter Sheila Clark of Portland, her son Walter Poole and his wife Ann of Spring Hill, Florida and her son Kenneth Poole of Miami, Florida. She also leaves her sister Janet Holloway of Bar Harbor and her brother David Benner of Nobleboro, as well as four grandchildren, Cheryl Cramer of Portland, Lori Johnson of Alabama, Michael Poole of Florida and David Poole of Maryland and seven great grandchildren.
Beatrice's family wishes to thank the staff at the Barron Center for the quality of care they provided to Beatrice.
A graveside service will be held in late spring.
