Evelyn H. Miller
PORTLAND - Evelyn H. Miller, 96, of Capisic Street, Portland, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Maine Medical Center. She was born in Clarksburg, Mass., the daughter of Raymond and Anne Oakes Houston. She attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School class of 1932. Evelyn was employed at the former Osteopathic Hospital of Maine later Brighton Medical Center as the Director of Admissions for several years until her retirement in 1978. She was known to be a very kind and generous person. She was member of Woodfords Congregational Church, and The Women's Literary Union of Portland. She was predeceased by her husband, James Robert Miller in 1977; a daughter Judith Geng in 1995; her two brothers, Raymond Houston Jr. in 2009 and Hayden Houston in 2005.
She leaves two sons, Robert H. Miller with whom is made her home of Portland, Peter H. Miller of Westbrook; two nephews, Raymond Houston III of Burlington, Vt., David Houston of Saco; three grandchildren, James Geng, stationed with the military, Lisa Adams of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Geng of Albuquerque, N.M.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m., where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Clarksburg Cemetery, Clarksburg, Mass., in the spring.
