Domenic J. Mazziotti
PORTLAND - Domenic J. Mazziotti, 86, of Sherwood Street, passed away on March 6, 2010, in Portland. He was born in Portland a son of Joseph and Maria (Palazzlo) Mazziotti. Domenic attended Portland High School and worked for his father's construction company. When WW II broke out, Domenic enlisted in the Navy and he spent 9 months in Iceland, the Pacific and the Philippines. He was on a Navy sea- going tug that sank in the Pacific. He and his two brothers owned and operated Mazziotti Brothers, a Texaco station on Bates Street, for 37 years. He was an avid golfer and a boating enthusiast.
One of the highlights of his life was a visit from then heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Rocky Marciano, which took place at the Mazziotti Brothers Texaco Station. For a period of five years, Domenic was employed as deputy sheriff for the Cumberland County Sheriffs Dept.
He was pre-deceased by a son, Richard, in 1993
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (DiMatteo) Mazziotti; a son, Stephen D. Mazziotti and his wife Kathleen of Saco; daughter in-law, Suzanne LeVesque of Auburn; brother, Raymond Mazziotti of Falmouth; grandchildren, Erica Rassmusson of Texas, Deanna Garza of Florida, Stephen D. Mazziotti, Jr. of Saco, Darsha Peaslee of Gray and Devin Mazziotti of Portland.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday March 10, 2010 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on March 11, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church 492 Ocean Ave, Portland. Burial with military honors will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, So. His famous last words were "Glad we could get together" after visiting with family and friends.
