Louise C. DiMatteo Heitz
WINTER HAVEN, FL - Louise C. DiMatteo Heitz,82, died March 19, 2010 after a two year battle with cancer at her home in Florida, with her husband George of 49 years at her bedside. She was born February 29, 1928 in Portland, Maine the daughter of Daniel and Josephine Magno DiMatteo. Louise worked in the family business , DiMatteo's Rest Home, in South Portland . She was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. In her early years Louise volunteered at the YWCA, 7/11 dances, where she met her husband George Heitz an airman in the US Air Force. After her marriage she traveled to Montana, Chicago, GTMO Bay, Cuba and then settled for several years in Lee NH.
Louise worked at several nursing homes during her travels and in the Nutrition Services Department at Portsmouth Jr. High. Louise was involved in the St. George Women Club in Durham NH and a member of the Chapel Community GTMO Bay,Cuba. Louise enjoyed baking pistachio cakes for family and friends, making various crafts and especially enjoyed her summers in Maine camping and visiting with family.
Louise is predeceased by her sister Theresa DiMatteo Flint.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister Sarah DiMatteo Conley of Cape Elizabeth, her brother Daniel DiMatteo of Falmouth , her brother in laws;Harold Flint of Portland and Richard Zilka and his wife Marie of Chicago, sister in law Georgian Kunde of Illinois and numerous nieces, nephews all whom will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland.
Prayers will be recited on March 25th at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 72 Federal St. Portland.
Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
