Barbara Kime Fellows

YARMOUTH -  Barbara Kime Fellows, 77, died of heart failure at her home in Yarmouth on Friday, June, 11, 2010.   Barbara was born to George and Mabel (Molly) Caldwell Kime in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on February 14, 1933.  She spent her younger years in Kalamazoo, Michigan before completing undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University and receiving her Masters Degree in Counseling from Michigan State University.   For several years, Barbara taught school in Pontiac, Michigan before accepting a Guidance Counselor position at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York in 1962.  Her life's work was sharing her love of education, through tutorial assistance, guiding students with their vocational choices and inspiring them to further their education.

On February 20, 1965, Barbara married Leonard F. Fellows of Chappaqua, a widower with three teenage daughters, Karen, Allyson and Daryl.  She embraced Leonard and the girls with her love and gentle guidance, creating a strong and loving home. She continued her counseling career at the high school until 1980.  Following retirement, Barbara went on to tutor students for college boards at "Hand and Hand" in Chappaqua.  She and Leonard enjoyed traveling the country in their RV until his death in 1988.  Barbara was a member of the advisory board of the Center for Domestic Violence, where she actively volunteered for many years.

            Barbara moved from Chappaqua to Yarmouth, Maine in September 2006 to be close to family there. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She volunteered at the Naval Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, visiting veterans wounded in the war in Iraq.

  Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard and her two brothers, Dennis and Michael Kime.  She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kennedy and her husband Peter of Falmouth, Maine, her daughter Allyson Collins and her husband Robert of Canton, New York, her daughter Daryl Dunlavy and her husband Patrick of White Plains, New York, her sister, Susan Stewart of Kalamazoo, Michigan and her sister, Georgia Painter of Smyrna, Tennessee, and two sisters-in-law, Doris Brownlow of Johnson City, New York and Winifred Paulsen of Dallas, Pennsylvania.  She was also a beloved "Gram" to her eight grandchildren, Timothy, Brendan, Bryan, Meghan, Michael, Donal, Courtney and Kelly, and five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Anna, Avery, Maya and Jordan.   "Aunt Bobbi" will always be affectionately remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

  A memorial service followed by a luncheon for family and friends will be held at The Kittle House in Mt. Kisco, New York on Friday, June 25th at 11:30 am.  A private interment will be in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones, Rich, and Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland, Maine.
