Dennis L. Libby

LADY LAKE, Fla. - Dennis L. Libby, 64, of Lady Lake, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2010.
He was born in Portland on May 1, 1945, the son of Louville and Rita Stanley Libby. He attended Portland schools and graduated in 1963 from Portland High, where he was a trumpet player in the high school band. In 1966 he joined the Portland Fire Department where he worked for two years before going to work for New England Telephone co. in 1968. After retiring from the phone company he worked as a business agent for I.B.E.W. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Dennis lived for many years in Windham, where he was very active in local politics and once ran for public office. He was a proud democrat who was very concerned about labor issues and instilled in his children a respect for the American worker.

He jumped at any opportunity to serve his community. He was a coach and mentor for many kids in Portland's East Deering Little League Seven, he proudly participated in and provided support to the Boy Scouts of America, Pine Tree Council of Maine and was a former member of the Woodford's Club in Portland and the Windham Lions Club. He also participated in many of the local community theaters both on stage and behind the scenes.

In 2003 he moved to Florida where he met his future wife Kathleen. They were married in Maine in 2004.

 He was predeceased by his previous wife, Mariann, who died in 1998; his father in 2002; a brother Wayne in 2006; and his mother in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen K. (McGlocklin) Libby of Lady Lake, Fla.; five children, Kimberly S. of Orange City, Fla., Kelly M. of Colchester, Vt., Nicole J. of Richmond, Va., Robert A. and Gregory S. of Windham; three brothers, Ronald L. and Richard S. of The Villages, Fla., and Laurence P. of Portland, a sister, Donna Butts of Scarborough; a sister-in-law, Patricia Harris of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren.

 Denny will be greatly missed and will always be in the hearts of his family and many friends.

 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. The Fr. Robert Regan will officiate. A reception will follow at the Woodfords Club.
