Dorothy M. Rubin


Dorothy M. Rubin, 95, passed away May 21, 2010, at her residence in the Osher Inn, Portland. Born in Boston in 1914 to Albert and Edith Golden, she graduated from the Girls Latin School and earned a law degree from Boston University Law School in 1936, one of only three women in her class. She met her husband, Harold J. Rubin, in law school, they were married for 57 years. Judge Rubin died in 1995. A member of the Massachusetts State and the Maine Federal Bars, Mrs. Rubin worked in her husband's Bath office prior to his appointment to the Superior Court Bench.  When he became a Judge, she traveled with him to the various county courts where he presided.

They lived in Bath for over forty years until Judge Rubin's retirement and then divided their time between New Smyrna Beach, FL and their much loved cottage at Popham Beach. They both loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe and Asia. She moved back to Maine in 2000 and resided at the Atrium at Cedars.

          She is survived by a son, Peter, and his wife, Donna, of Scarborough, a daughter, Adelle, of Philadelphia, 2 grandchildren, Kara Rubin of New York City, and Joel Rubin of Los Angeles, a sister, Daphne Glassman, of Falmouth, MA, and many nieces and nephews.

           The family would like to thank the caregivers from the Osher Inn and Home Partners for their kind and compassionate care during the final weeks of Mrs. Rubin's illness.

A Graveside service will be held 1p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Beth El Memorial Park  Congress St. Portland. Shiva will be observed on Sunday and Monday evenings at 7pm at the home of Peter and Donna Rubin.                            

 Contributions in Dorothy Rubin's memory may be made to the Justice Harold J. Rubin Scholarship Fund at the University of Maine Law School, 246 Deering Ave., Portland, ME, 04102.
