Ann Arlie Stratton

FREEPORT - Ann Arlie Stratton died peacefully at Hawthorne House on May 31, 2010 after long illness.
Born January 4, 1928 in Portland she was the daughter of the late Millard and Gertrude Huelin Bailey. Growing  up in the North Deering area of Portland she graduated from Deering High School in 1946 and had many wonderful memories.  She worked in the office at Central Maine Railroad for several years.   After she married Leroy"Bud" Stratton in 1952 they moved to Cumberland. Initially it was difficult for her to adjust to rural living, but she soon loved living in Cumberland and joined several community clubs including working the local polls at election time.  Later she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's hardware store for several years.

She was a much loved grandmother of her grandson. When he was young they spent many afternoons together.  He can remember many of their adventures including their spontaneous excursions to the area toy stores.

She had many books and enjoyed reading.  Ann would read the same books her grandson was reading and they would discuss them together.

She was a life time member of Cornerstone Chapter of Eastern Star.

Surviving is her daughter; Bette Twomey and grandson; Bryan Twomey both of Cumberland, a sister; Sally Powers of New Gloucester and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday June 7, 2010 at Moss Side Cemetery Cumberland with the Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
